“It was a Saturday evening in mid May and my “Urbanist” friend Alexandra Gomes was visiting from London We wanted to go to Mubarikiya and decided to try taking the bus, as the bus-stop was a 2-min walk from our house We didn’t know the routes but knew that the road we are on leads to the city, so we jumped on the first bus that came our way
Our experience was both pleasantly surprising and a little scary After boarding the moving bus (the driver seemed to be on a mission to race the other buses around us), we each paid the driver 300 fils for the ticket and sat upstairs for the full road view! The bus was pretty empty and clean!
We arrived at our destination, hopped off (again without a complete stop) and crossed the street to the suq swiftly at a pedestrian crossing signal at the traffic light It’s the quickest trip I had ever taken to Mubarikiya
Overall the trip was quick, clean and efficient going into the city, although going back, we ended up getting a ride from my husband as we didn’t know how to catch the correct bus back I would definitely consider taking the bus again but wouldn’t recommend it for young children or the elderly”
